Peter Gieler Feb 2021

Cllr. Peter Gieler

My family and I have lived in Hughenden for nearly forty years from where I commuted daily to West London. Having graduated from the universities¬† of Sussex and Bonn I worked my entire life in secondary education. For 20 years I had both academic and pastoral responsibility for Post 16 Education for up to 350 students. I have been involved with local educational establishments primary, secondary and tertiary. Following my retirement I led the charity The Anglo Austrian Society for ten years organising cultural exchanges, lectures, exhibitions and concerts as well as editing and publishing a quarterly journal. I have lectured on behalf of the WEA for some years on historical, cultural European topics…

I have been a local councillor for some six years working in partnership with colleagues within the council as well as Hughenden Valley Residents Association, The Village Hall, Buckinghamshire Council, The National Trust, Chiltern ANOB, BBOWT and many other organisations. I care passionately about our environment and am striving to protect and improve the Green Belt and our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We have conducted a tree survey throughout the Parish and have just completed removing and making safe dangerous trees. I hope that we can now proceed to plant the right trees in the right place for the future and form a continuous green corridor throughout the parish by creating small areas of wild flowers, protecting and enhancing our open spaces and replacing hedges. Hughenden Valley is fortunate in having an abundance of wildlife and I hope we can strive to preserve this for future generations.
